Germany (STC) - Sachsenring
The Sachsenring circuit has a long tradition of motorcycle having hosted the first motorcycle race in 1927.
At that time the track measured 8.6 kilometers, and from 1961 to 1972 has hosted regularly the German round of the motorcycle World Championships.
However in 1990, it did not meet the new standards of safety and for this reason the circuit did not obtain additional approval for hosting the world championship.
Therefore the decision was taken to completely redesign the track and to construct new race control buildings and pit complex.
The final result is a modern circuit still situated within the confines of the old Sachsenring.
Today, the circuit is much shorter than the previous one. In fact, with its 3671 m length it is now among the shortest tracks that MotoGP visits, rejoining as it did the Grand Prix calendar in 1998.
