The circuit of Estoril
The Estoril circuit, named in Portuguese 'Autódromo do Estoril' and officially 'Autódromo Fernanda Pires da Silva', is the main circuit of Portugal for motorsports.
Located on Portugal's Atlantic coast, 32 km (18 miles) from the capital city Lisbon, the Estoril circuit had its debut as MotoGP track in 2000 and hosted its first Formula One event in 1984.
This 4.182 km (2.6 miles) circuit is one of the trickiest and slowest tracks on the GP schedule.
It combines long, even radius corners with heavy braking zones, bumpy straights and a tricky slow-speed chicane.
Characterized by an irregular Tarmac surface it is one of the most challenging circuits on the calendar.
The conformation of the circuit has remained virtually unchanged since1996 except for some changes in the final part of the track, for safety reasons in 1994.
